Marc Forster

* 30 Nov 1969, Swiss-German, film director, producer and screenwriter.

Marc Forster was introduced to me by my dear friend Florian in 2010 during a weekend in the Swiss mountains. When asked for useful tips for my own creative career, he said: "You just have to work hard for at least ten years - then maybe you'll have a career".

Now I meet Marc again, almost ten years later, on the morning of Christmas Eve 2019, at the Restaurant Terrasse in Zurich, an hour before opening time. Marc is sensitive, fresh, focused, interested. I wanted to know how he can be sure his creative decisions are right when working with Hollywood greats like Sean Pean? It may sound like a silly question, but it's about leaving room for someone else knowing something you don't. His simple but succinct answer: "Through meticulous preparation." What a great answer! We all hope for miracles, but who is going to do your work if not you?

Marc Forster is a Swiss-German film director, producer and screenwriter. He is best known for directing the feature films Monster's Ball, Finding Neverland, Stranger than Fiction, The Kite Runner, Quantum of Solace, World War Z, Christopher Robin, and the upcoming Thomas & Friends film. He is a BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Independent Spirit Award nominee.
