Johnny Lane

When Philipp Keel, artist and publisher of Diogenes Verlag, came to Los Angeles in 2015, he invited all of his friends, as was his custom, for cocktails at The Tower Bar on Sunset Boulevard. That’s where I met Johnny Lane, American painter and the possible reincarnation of James Dean. We connected instantly and to this day, I wish I was as cool as Johnny.

John Lane was born outside Boston, Massachusetts, in 1970. He spent his youth making rock music and strange drawings, before studying painting at Rhode Island School Of Design. His paintings are in the style of les Fauves, emphasizing strong colour and line over the realistic. John Lane is married, has a daughter and lives and works in Southern California.
